SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1855 RIFLE/MUSKET. Cal. 58. Standard rifle/musket with square base front sight/bayonet lug and 2-leaf 3-position rear sight. Mounted with iron furniture and a 1-pc walnut stock with 2-pc iron patchbox and a tulip-head ramrod. Lock has the tape priming system that is functional. PROVENANCE: From a coastal New Jersey home. CONDITION: Fair. All orig showing heavy wear with cleaned metal with heavy pitting around nipple area. Stock has a hairline back & front of lockplate and a couple of grain checks by buttplate, otherwise wood is sound with most of an old refinish; hammer nose is chipped.
