GEORGE III STYLE JAPANNED SECRETARY BOOKCASE. Late 19th century, England. With old elements, the secretary in two parts. The upper case fitted with a pair of doors opening to shelves. Each door applied with elliptic moldings beneath a molded cornice. The lower case with hinged sloping lid opening to pigeon holes and lid over four graduated long drawers with cockbeaded edges, raised a on molded base with shaped bracket feet. Japanned green surfaces with gilt and paint decorated landscape in the oriental taste. SIZE: 80″ h x 36″ w of case x 19-1/2″ d PROVENANCE: From a fine Augusta, Maine estate. CONDITION: Surfaces original but dry and crusty with losses to Japanning. Surfaces fair. Structurally sound. 9-29190 (3,500-5,000)
