WHITNEY MODEL 1842 MISSISSIPPI RIFLE. Cal. 54. Fine Mississippi rifle with 33″ browned steel bbl, brass mounted with orig front sight and fixed rear sight along with trumpet head brass tipped ramrod. It has brass furniture with a 2-pc patchbox containing a spare nipple. Lockplate is dated “1851” and breech plug tang “1850”. Left side flat of the 1-pc walnut stock has two visible cartouches. PROVENANCE: From a coastal New Jersey home. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains 60-70% orig brown with fine freckles of surface rust; lockplate & hammer retain smoky case colors; wood is sound with a gouge in forestock showing moderate to heavy wear; brass furniture is medium mustard patina.
