JOHNSON MODEL 1817 FLINTLOCK COMMON RIFLE. Cal. 54. Late production rifle with 36″ rnd bbl, square base front sight/bayonet lug and fixed rear sight. Lockplate has standard late markings with the date “1827”. Mounted in a 1-pc walnut stock with visible cartouche on left side panel and is mounted with iron furniture. It has a brass tipped iron ramrod with an oval spring loaded patchbox in right side of buttstock. There were 3,000 of these rifles produced 1824-1827. PROVENANCE: From a coastal New Jersey home. CONDITION: Fine. Metal retains a smooth cleaned patina with scattered spots of discoloration. Stock has a hairline in the left side flat and retains most of an old refinish. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bore. 9-24219 (2,000-3,000)
