UNUSUAL NEW HAMPSHIRE TILT TOP SPIDER LEG CANDLE STAND. Circa 1810. Probably Southern New Hampshire. The diminutive oval top tilting on an urn form standard with incised line decoration raised on four arched spider legs. This unusual form featuring two vertical grooves in the space between each leg, the top of each leg decorated with a short groove terminating in a point, the base of the standard with multiple notches, the underside of the arched legs with rippled plane marks, each leg carved with a flat spur at the base. The underside of the top has an unusual rectangular cleat across the midpoint of the top. SIZE: h. 26-1/4″ x top 17-1/4″ x w.12-3/4″ PROVENANCE: Discovered in a South Central New Hampshire home. CONDITION: The stand retains old, if not original surfaces the top has been reset. There are no other restorations noted with good color and patina. 9-99910 (2,000-3,000)
