ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Condition: One chair with break at upper left side of crest rail, above splat, proper right front leg with plug at rear of leg, otherwise chairs with old professional repairs. Generally good.

FINE PAIR OF BALTIMORE INLAID MAHOGANY SIDE CHAIRS. Circa 1810, Maryland. The oval molded back centering three slats, the outermost headed with carved water leaves over carrot shaped cutouts, centering a fan shaped central splat with bellflower inlay above a carrot shaped cutout, all above a pierced fan. The elliptic over upholstered seat above the curved frontal seat rail, with contrasting checkerboard stepped inlays raised on square tapered frontal legs with Marlboro feet. The rear legs backswept, joined by a recess box stretcher. Note: For a related example with similar elements, see plate 104, page 152 in “American Furniture The Federal Period”, by Charles F. Montgomery. SIZE: 37-1/2″ h of back. 18″ h of seat. CONDITION: Chairs with original untouched surfaces, some minor losses to string inlays in seat rails.
