CABOT LYFORD (American, b. 1925) CARVED WHALE SCULPTURE. Circa 1981. This fine walnut sculpture, carved from the solid, depicting a whale exiting the water, tail partially visible on the circular base. Beneath the base is carved the artist’s signature “LYFORD 81”. Note: Cabot Lyford of New Harbor, Maine did much of his work in stone. It is somewhat uncommon to have an example of his art carved in wood. SIZE: 28″ h. PROVENANCE: From a Portland, Maine area Estate. CONDITION: Very good original condition. Shrinkage cracks were filled with strips of walnut prior to carving. Structurally very good with medium brown patina. 9-22407 (2,000-3,000)
