UNSIGNED (American, 19th Century) “BRIG TOWED OUT GOLDEN GATE BY A STEAM TUG ON THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY”. Oil on canvas California coastal scene shows a mountain lined bay with Alcatraz island having fort, lighthouse and buildings with American flag. A three-mast ship is being towed by a small tug and a small fishing boat with mooring buoy is seen in the foreground. A two-mast sailboat is sailing left to right in front of island. All under a beautiful sunset sky shaded from blue to yellow with pink highlighted clouds. A modern label with title affixed to reverse. Also a penned inscription “James Leonard Collection”. Housed in a gilt replacement frame. SIZE: 23″ x 30-1/2″. PROVENANCE: From the Estate of Geraldine Gaba, Scottsdale, AZ. CONDITION: Very good, relined, professionally restored. 9-94805 (2,000-4,000)
