HOOPES FAMILY PHILADELPHIA QUEEN ANNE WALNUT DRESSING TABLE ATTRIBUTED TO WILLIAM SAVERY. Mid 18th Century. The rectangular two board top with molded edges and round corners projecting above the conforming case fitted with a long drawer over three aligned drawers all with thumb molded edges. Case raised on cabriole legs with shaped and scrolling returns terminating in stockinged faceted club feet. The scrolled astragal arched apron with incised edges conforming with the incised edges of the legs. Literature: 1) The outswept elements in the apron as seen in a labeled Savery highboy Horner’s Blue Book by William M. Horner, Jr., plate 55. 2) The use of stocking club feet of similar design are found on a labeled Savery side chair Philadelphia Furniture & It’s Makers, illustrated on page 27. Irish Influence in Pennsylvania Queen Anne Furniture by David Stockwell. SIZE: 29-1/4″ h. Overall 37-1/2″ w. Case 32-1/2″ w. Depth 19-1/4″. PROVENANCE: Estate of Donelson Hoops, by descent through the family in Philadelphia, PA. CONDITION: Piece retains old surfaces, top has been cleaned and reset. Some glue blocks beneath top are old, if not original. Backboard original, legs untouched. Brass hardware, third replacement. Some minor chips to drawer lips. 9-99939 (8,000-12,000)
