FEDERAL MAHOGANY SLANT-LID DESK. Late 18th century, New England. The rectangular dovetailed case with hinged sloping lid opening to an interior fitted with a row of valanced pigeon holes above a row of document drawers centering a shell carved prospect door above four graduated long drawers all with thumb molded edges, the uppermost flanked by lopers on a molded base raised on ogee bracket feet with shaped returns. The desk with original brass hardware. SIZE: 41-1/4″ h. 39″ case w. 20-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: From a Southern Maine private collection.
