*WINCHESTER 1886 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. SN 144459. Cal. 45-70, 26″ round bbl, full mag, Lyman ivory bead hunting front sight, 1000yd ladder rear sight. Top of bbl is marked “MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. / NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. PAT. OCT. 14. 1884. JAN. 20. 1885.” Adjacent receiver is WP proof marked “45-70″ and WP proof top of receiver ring. Standard receiver mounted with lightly figured straight grain walnut, uncheckered straight grip, checkered steel shotgun butt, sling eye 4” from toe, standard forend, nose cap fit with sling eye. Accompanied with Cody Firearm Museum Winchester fact sheet identifying rifle 45-70, round bbl, plain trigger, Lyman hunting front, shotgun butt, screw eyes. Received in warehouse June 23, 1908. Shipped December 16, 1909 on order number 240349. No assembly numbers were found on lower tang. Under butt plate and stock is stamped “E.G. BURGER”. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl and mag tube retain 95-97% orig blue with slight muzzle wear, some minor nicks, dings & handling marks and just starting to thin in chamber area. Receiver retains 90% orig blue, thinning and blending with brown and silver patina across bottom, silvering on sharp edges and some areas on each side of fine, shallow surface oxidation blending to brown patina. Hammer shows strong orig case colors. Lever shows dark orig case colors on side blending with brown patina across bottom. Stock is sound with normal minor nicks, dings & handling marks, retaining an old thin coat of added oil. Forend is sound with normal nicks, dings & handling marks and retains an old thin coat of added oil. Mag tube retains strong orig blue.
