FEDERAL CHAUNCY IVES PILLAR & SCROLL SHELF CLOCK. First quarter 19th century, Bristol, Connecticut. The swan’s neck pediment crest fitted with three brass urn and spire finials above the rectangular case with conforming door. The eglomise tablet painted with an American ship in a marine landscape within a gold gilt foliate border. The wooden dial with scrolling gilt foliate spandrels centering an Arabic numeral chapter ring with time and strike apertures and thirty hour weight driven movement. The case flanked with freestanding colonnettes raised on slender pointed feet with shaped returns and apron. Clock is offered with winder, pendulum, pair of weights, and door key. Case retains original Chauncy Ives paper label on back. SIZE: 31″ h x 16-1/2″ w. CONDITION: Repair to proper left swan’s neck pediment, with small loss to veneer, proper left side gallery. Eglomise panel original but with extensive paint loss, otherwise very good. 9-27700 (800-1,200)
