ATTRIBUTED TO JOHN SINGLETON COPLEY (American, 1738-1815) PORTRAIT OF NATHANIEL HURD. Oil on canvas half portrait of the famous Boston silversmith Nathaniel Hurd. Scene shows him seated with hands clasped on a table set with two books. He wears a black hat and red edged brown robe against a brown curtain swag. Unsigned. Housed in a fine antique gilt frame. The finished portrait is housed at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Nathaniel was son of the famous Boston silversmith, Jacob Hurd, and also is known for his engravings. SIZE: 30″ x 24-1/2″.
