*SPECIAL ORDER WINCHESTER 1886 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. SN 134697. Cal. 40-82WCF, 28″ octagon bbl, full magazine, half-nickel front sight with set screw, serrated side V-notch sporting rear. Top flat is marked “MANUFACTURED BY THE / WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.” Standard receiver mounted with lightly figured, straight-grain walnut, uncheckered straight grip, crescent steel buttplate, standard forend with nose cap. Accompanied with Cody Firearm Museum Winchester letter identifying as rifle, 40-82, 28″ bbl, octagon, plain trigger. Received in warehouse July 8, 1905. Shipped August 31, 1905 on order number 5411. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl and mag tube retain 98-99% blue, some minor nicks & scratches and starting to thin on sharp edges of octagon. Receiver retains 97-98% blue, thinning on sharp edges, some minor, faint nicks & scratches, some faint shallow spots of surface oxidation, mostly on left side. Hammer retains nearly all of its fine case colors, as well as lever. Stock is sound with numerous small handling marks and a series of minor dents on left side in wrist area, retaining most of its orig finish. Buttplate shows dark case coloring. Forend is sound with a couple minor shallow dents and typical handling marks. Retains orig finish blending with hand-worn patina on rear left side. Nose cap shows strong blue blending with some brown patina. Mechanics are crisp with bright shiny bore, as gun shows to have very little use. 4-36909 BDT175 (12,500-17,500)
