AMERICAN WEIGHT DRIVEN MAHOGANY PRESENTATION BANJO TIMEPIECE. 19th century. The case of typical form with eagle finial and with eglomise throat and box panels, the throat mounted with an eglomise panel depicting a displayed eagle above the Great Seal of the United States over dolphins, flanked by brass filets, over a square box base, the hinged door fitted with an eglomise panel depicting the battle between the USS Constitution and the HMS Java, the ships centering a displayed eagle with arrow cluster above an American shield flanked by gilt torches the enameled iron dial with Roman Numeral chapter ring and time only aperture. The eight-day brass weight driven movement with pendulum. SIZE: 34-1/2″ h. Dial: 7-3/4″ dia. CONDITION: Eglomise panels are original and intact, movement appears intact, the brass weight cord has been broken and the weight broke through the base of the case, there is no bottom pediment present.
