*VERY RARE SPECIAL ORDER WINCHESTER 1886 IN 50-100-450. SN 125497. Cal. 50-100-450, 22″ rnd bbl, half magazine, Lyman ivory bead hunting front sight, serrated side V-notch sporting rear with set screw. Top of bbl is marked “MANUFACTURED BY THE / WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.” Left side below rear sight “NICKEL STEEL”. Adjacent receiver “50-100/450”. Standard receiver mounted in lightly figured straight grain walnut, uncheckered straight grip, smooth steel shotgun butt, sling eye 4″ from toe, standard forend with nose cap with sling eye. Accompanied with Cody Firearms Museum Winchester letter identifying as a 50-100-450 rifle, 22″ rnd bbl, nickel steel, plain trigger, flat top sporting rear sight, half magazine, shotgun butt, sling and swivel, smokeless. Received in warehouse May 15, 1902. Shipped from warehouse May 16, 1902. It should be noted that a record survey of the Model 1886 revealed 241 guns produced in the 50-100-450 caliber. Inspection of lower tang reveals no assembly number but number 459 can be found in top tang channel of stock and inside toe of buttplate. CONDITION: Very Fine. Bbl retains 97-98% orig blue with just a few normal minor nicks & scratches. Receiver retains 90-95% orig blue thinning and blending with silver patina across bottom, front portion and sharp edges. Sides show orig polish marks. Hammer retains dark orig case colors with some faint silvering at nose. Lever retains strong orig case colors on side, thinning and blending with gray patina across bottom. Stock is sound with normal nicks, dings & fine scratches, retaining much of its orig finish blended with hand-worn patina through grip. Left side center of wrist at receiver has a neatly carved arrow. Back towards buttplate is matching arrow with vertical line followed by Roman numeral XII followed by “in.” Some previous owner had a purpose to measure 12″. Buttplate retains orig blue blended with silver patina on heel and toe and outside edges. Forend is sound with some minor nicks & dings and a shallow 1″ x 1/4″ dent on left side, retaining orig finish with hand-worn patina across bottom. Nose cap retains most of its orig blue with a few minor scratches. Mechanics are crisp with a bright, shiny bore. 4-39867 BDT224 (30,000-50,000)
