THE AVERY FAMILY QUEEN ANNE CHERRY BONNET-TOP HIGHBOY. Circa 1750-1770, Connecticut. The broken arch full bonnet crest with molded cornice centering a large flame finial above a central fan carved drawer flanked by short drawers above four graduated long drawers, all with thumbmolded edges, fitted to the mid-molded lower case having a single long drawer above a central fan carved drawer flanked by two deep drawers above a scalloped and shaped apron raised on cabriole legs with distinctive ridged knees and shaped returns terminating in platform pad feet. Highboy retains all original brass hardware. Pictured in The Magazine Antiques, June 1996 in an ad by Israel Sack Inc. Copy of advertisement accompanies this lot. SIZE: 81″ h x 36″ case w, 40-1/2″ overall w x 20-3/4″ d. PROVENANCE: By descent through the Avery Family of Groton, CT. CONDITION: With small restored section of backboard in bonnet. Bonnet, backboards, legs and feet all original, proper left front return is a replacement. Case with newer surfaces, in need of professional repolishing.
