IMPORTANT PATENT DOCUMENT FOR WILLIAM POLLARD OF PHILADELPHIA SIGNED BY GEORGE WASHINGTON & THOMAS JEFFERSON. The document as follows: “The United States. To all to whom these patents shall come-greeting. Whereas William Pollard of Philadelphia in the state of Pennsylvania, hath presented a petition to the Secretary of State, the Secretary for the Department of War, and the Attorney General of the United States alleging and suggesting that he hath discovered the following useful improvement on a machine for spinning cotton not before known or used…” Dated December 13, 1791 and signed G. Washington and Th. Jefferson. Having a partial U.S. seal in upper left. Housed in a partial gilt and black frame with cutout matte including an engraving of Washington and one of Jefferson, both by Gilbert Stuart. Also included are two commemorative peace medals, one of Washington, the other of Jefferson. The back having a window showing the reverse of the document dated December 30, 1791 and signed Edm. Randolph, Attorney General of the United States. The frame has a Thomas F. Madigan, New York label “Autographs of the Worlds Greatest”. SIZE: Overall Sight: 24-1/2″ x 26″. PROVENANCE: From a coastal New Jersey home. CONDITION: Matte has toning, document has minor flaws including a few small holes and loss of part of its seal. Signatures are clear, part of Randolph’s signature is faded. Not examined out of frame. 9-24242 (30,000-50,000)
