RARE NANTUCKET SLEIGHRIDE FOLK ART WEATHERVANE. Late 19th/early 20th century, New England. Depicting a sperm whale with open jaw dragging a whaling dory with three primitive figures within. The figures each with cap, the whale carved with prominent teeth and lower jaw. Surfaces with dry, crusty black paint. SIZE: Approximately 11″ h x 56-1/2″ l. PROVENANCE: Sold at Cyr auctions- the Berdan collection. Now a part of a Waterville, Maine collection. CONDITION: Surfaces as previously stated. Loss to upper fluke of tail. Loss of one figure in boat. Oar locks and tiller absent. 9-29602 (10,000-20,000)
