WINCHESTER 1876 EXPRESS RIFLE WITH SPECIAL LENGTH BARREL. SN 7749. Cal. 50-95. Special length 26″ oct bbl with a nickel silver blade front sight and an adjustable leaf rear sight. Bbl marking on top flat “WINCHESTER’S REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN, CT. / KING’S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860.” and caliber marking behind rear sight “.50 CAL. EXPRESS”. Full length mag. Early 2nd Model receiver with dust cover guide secured by screws. Dust cover has impressed oval thumb piece and is marked “Winchester Express / .50 Cal. 95 Grs.”. Top tang is marked “Model, 1876.”. Standard rifle butt stock with crescent steel buttplate and rifle forend of semi-fancy American black walnut. PROVENANCE: Accompanied by Cody Firearms Museum letter stating rifle/bbl shape is octagon/plain trigger/Express/ rec’d in warehouse May 22, 1879, shipped from warehouse on May 23, 1879. CONDITION: Very good as restored. Professional restoration by Roger’s Winchester Restoration in California. Bbl and mag tube have 98% restored finish with slight edge wear. Receiver has 98% restored finish with some small wear spots. Forend cap, hammer, trigger, lever and buttplate have very good re-cased finish. Very good refinished wood with minor handling marks.
