SILAS HOADLEY (1786-1870) PINE TALL CASE CLOCK. The pine case with arched cornice, alternating with a central eagle finial flanked by urn and spire finials above a molded cornice over an astragal arched door flanked by free standing colonnettes. The conforming wood dial gilt and paint-decorated in the arch with a classical urn amidst flower heads. The Roman numeral chapter ring within gilt and painted spandrels containing a subsidiary seconds dial and calendar dial around which is painted “S. HOADLEY PLYMOUTH.” The wooden works of oak, birch, maple and walnut driven by two canister weights, chiming on a bell. The pine waisted case with engaged quarter columns with brass capitals and bases centering a rectangular door with thumb molded edges on a high molded box base terminating in tapered French feet. NOTE: It is thought by the current owners that the wooden works may possibly be those of Gideon Roberts of Bristol, Connecticut with a Silas Hoadley dial. In any event, the movement appears to be original to the face. SIZE: 85-1/2″ h x 14″ w x 10″ d (overall). CONDITION: The case has been stripped of original decorations and/or grained surfaces. The movement and face are in very good condition. 9-23854 (3,000-5,000)
