WINCHESTER 1876 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. SN 40444. Cal. 40-60, 28″ rnd bbl, full magazine, half nickel front sight, “1876” marked, 1000 yard ladder rear sight. Top of bbl is marked “WINCHESTER’S-REPEATING-ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT. / KING’S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 26, 1866. OCTOBER 16, 1860.” Adjacent receiver “CAL.45-60”. Standard receiver with dust cover. Mounted with straight grain walnut, uncheckered straight grip, crescent steel buttplate with trapdoor. Standard forend with nose cap. Accompanied with Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying as 45-60 rnd bbl rifle with plain trigger received in warehouse on October 13, 1884 and shipped from warehouse on October 16, 1884 on order number 16362. CONDITION: Very good plus. Bbl and mag tube retain a blue-brown patina mixing with silver patina, normal nicks & scratches and a couple small spots of surface oxidation. Receiver shows 40-50% orig blue blending with brown patina and showing silver at sharp edges and balance point, minor nicks & scratches, a small clean spot on left plate and some areas of minor surface oxidation. Stock is sound with normal handling marks and minor nicks & dings showing traces of orig varnish in an overall hand-worn patina finish. Forend is sound with normal bruising, minor nicks & dings and retains a weathered open-grain hand-worn patina. Mechanics are crisp with moderate dark bore, distinct rifling and scattered pitting. 4-36395 BDT57 (3,000-5,000)
