A. LANGE & SOHNE SHIP’S CHRONOMETER. Second quarter 20th century, Germany. The instrument mounted on gimbal within original mahogany case with hinged lid. The silvered dial with Roman numeral chapter ring, and with subsidiary dials, marked “A. LANGE &SOHNE/GLASHUTTE B/DRESDON 1297. SIZE: Dial: 4-1/2″ dia. Case: 7″ x 7″ x 7”. PROVENANCE: Paper label attached to case reads: “Captured from the Germans at the fall of Brest, France, by Lt. Col. Carleton E. Fisher”. CONDITION: Not examined out of case. Beveled glass cover above dial with small chip and multiple flea bites on edge. Otherwise appears very good. 9-27704 (2,500-3,500)
