WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 THIRD MODEL LEVER ACTION RIFLE. SN 400079. Cal. 38WCF, 24-1/4″ rnd bbl, full mag, half nickel front sight, serrated side V-notch sporting rear with set screw. Top of bbl is marked “WINCHESTER’S-REPEATING-ARMS NEW HAVEN. CT. / KING’S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860.” Adjacent receiver “38W.C.F.” Standard Third Model receiver with lifter marked “38 CAL.” Mounted with straight grain walnut, uncheckered straight grip, crescent steel buttplate with trap door and standard forend with nose cap. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains 80% thinning orig blue toning in areas to brown patina. Mag tube has traces of orig blue but is mostly a light brown patina, perhaps caused by a chemical loss of the blue. Receiver retains 75-80% orig blue blending with brown patina, some minor nicks & scratches, showing bright on sharp edges. Dust cover has flaked to a gray mixed with brown patina. Hammer shows dark, orig case colors. Lever is a dark brown patina. Stock is sound with normal nicks, dings & small bruises and retains orig varnish blending with hand-worn patina. Stock is sound with some minor denting on left side, some minor nicks & scratches with hand-worn patina blending with orig varnish. Mechanics are crisp with a very nice bore with a couple of minor shallow pits. 4-40861 BDT230 (2,000-3,000)
