Lot Added: RARE & IMPORTANT STEEPLE CHASE COPPER WEATHERVANE ATTRIBUTED TO A.L. JEWELL & CO (1852-67) WALTHAM, MA. This fine molded copper example with sheet copper mane, ears, and tail depicting a running horse jumping fence. With very good verdigris surfaces. The rear haunch scratched with the owner’s initials “MC” (McLoon). SIZE: 33″ h x 35″ l. PROVENANCE: From the Estate of Olive H. McLoon, Dunstable, Massachusetts where it had been atop the barn of the family homestead. This weathervane had been stolen five years ago and recovered & retained by the police. The owner has since passed away and the weathervane is being sold for the Estate. We are privileged to have been selected by the Estate to offer this wonderful example. CONDITION: All original, one side of the copper gate absent. Three untouched bullet holes in body. Tip of tail is creased as is tail at body. Very good overall with wonderful patina. 9-25080 (30,000-50,000)
