SPECIAL ORDER WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 RIFLE. SN 244689B. Cal .44 WCF. 24″ part rnd bbl with nickel silver blade fixed front sight and sporting rear sight. Half length mag. Top flat of bbl is marked “WINCHESTER’S REPEATING ARMS, NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A./KING’S IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29, 1866. OCTOBER 16, 1860.” Standard blued receiver, Marbles flexible tang sight. Standard straight grip stock and rifle forend, straight grain American walnut with steel shotgun butt. PROVENANCE: Bruce M. Cady Estate Collection. Accompanied by a letter from Buffalo Bill Historical Center stating specifications as follows: rifle/44 Cal/plain trigger/shotgun butt/1/2 mag/rec in warehouse July 2, 1887/Shipped from warehouse July 5, 1887. CONDITION: Good. Some bbl blue blending with patina and areas of surface oxidization. Receiver has good blue in the protected areas blending with patina. Lever and hammer have traces of case colors. Buttstock is sound with normal wear and handling marks. Forend has a chip on left side at the receiver with normal wear and handling marks.
