FINE NEW HAMPSHIRE BIRCH TALL CASE CLOCK. Circa 1800. The formal case in the manner of Boston or Roxbury cases. The arched bonnet surmounted by pierced fret work and mounted with three brass ball and spire finials on pediments above an arched cove molded cornice supported by stop-fluted columns with brass capitals and bases centering an astragal shaped door. The enameled dial with moon phase beneath the arch above a Roman numeral chapter ring centering a subsidiary seconds dial, time and strike apertures, and centering a calendar aperture. The brass movement striking on bell mounted to an Osborne iron plate. The case with engages stop-fluted quarter columns centering a rectangular door with thumb-molded edges joined to a box base with cove molding, raised on tall molded bracket feet with shaped returns. SIZE: 94″ h, throat 14-1/2″ w x 10-1/4″ d. PROVENANCE: This clock handed down through the Adams’ family by descent to Phineas and Hanna Morison Adams of Manchester, NH gifted to Avis Morison by descent to Avis H. Howells, Belfast, Maine. CONDITION: Dial in untouched condition, brass movement in need of cleaning; but appears intact. Case with cleaned surfaces but original including backboards and bracket feet. Fret work in need of cosmetic repair. Finials appear old and original. Very good overall. 9-24881 (3,000-5,000)
