TWO SCRIMSHAW TEETH AND A TUSK. Not antique: 1) A tooth scribed “To Emily“, the polished surface depicting a harpooner posed on a barrel waving to an unseen person. The reverse a verse in script “From a monster of the deep/I took this tooth,/Seems a tall tale, but it is/the truth./I carved it and polished it from/the rough,/For you my dearest with all my love.” 2) Scrimmed with a scene of a ship aflame and titled within a banner “THE FLORIDA BURNS THE JACOB BELL”. The reverse scrimmed with a portrait titled “Confederate Commander/JOHN NEWLAND MAFFITT/of the/FLORIDA”. 3) The small walrus tusk encircled by a serpent within borders with the motto “DON’T TRED ON ME”.
