FINE DUNLAP MAPLE CHEST-ON-FRAME. Late 18th/early 19the century. New Hampshire. The molded cornice joined to the dovetailed case above five graduated long drawers with thumb molded edges fitted to the molded frame. The frieze carved with s-scrolling elements flanked by pronounced scallop shells, raised on short cabriole legs with circular pad feet and shaped returns. For a similar example, see “The Dunlap’s & Their Furniture, The Currier Gallery of Art”, Manchester, New Hampshire, plate 58. SIZE: 52-1/4″h x 46″ (case width), (overall width) 39-1/2″ x 19″d. PROVENANCE: From a fine New Jersey home. CONDITION: With old surfaces and medium honey color, nice patina with period brass hardware, not original. Overall very good. 9-23643 (4,000-6,000)
