EMILE ALBERT GRUPPE (American, 1896-1978) “MORNING ALONG CREEK, 1928”. Outstanding oil on canvas early work showing a stream with boulders and boulder banks with wooded background. The bright purple/blue water reflects the trees in the background. Gruppe, by using deep colors and thick impasto with curving brush strokes, shows his reverence to Monet and his early study of light and colors. A fine early work from an important period in Gruppe’s lifetime. Housed in a gesso decorated gilt replacement frame with gilt liner. The back of the original canvas inscribed “Morning Along Creek by Emile A Gruppe, 1928″. We beleive that this is the earliest dated work that we have ever handled. SIZE: 24″ x 20”. CONDITION: Very good. 9-97280 (20,000-25,000)
