SCARCE ORIG LATE MARTIAL HENRY BUTTSTOCK. An unusual find from the Crocker Estate Collection with no indication of where it may have originated. The SN has been mostly obliterated leaving only partial, indecipherable numbers, the second of which appears to be a “2”. This is a standard 7000-9000 serial range Type II, martially marked buttstock with tiny initials “AWM” on the left side of the wrist at the receiver. Left side of buttstock has the mortised relief cut for a factory swivel with a pronounced “Henry bump” immediately below. It also has the cutout & recess for cleaning rod in the butt. PROVENANCE: David Crocker Estate Collection. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Missing one small sliver from left heel with minor nicks & scratches and a couple of dings in the left rear edge and another by left top tang channel and also missing a small sliver from the right lower tang slot. Overall has light handling & use marks with a few minor dings and retains about 80% strong orig finish. 4-40978 JR333 (3,500-5,000)
