SCRIMSHAW TOOTH. Circa 1860. An early example depicting an American eagle and shield beneath a banner scrimmed “E. PLURIBUS” within a diamond border. The opposing side depicting a portrait of a woman within a star and pinwheel frame border of classical style. SIZE: 7-1/2″ l. PROVENANCE: From a private Utah collection. CONDITION: Tooth with old chips on tip and roughness to base with normal and expected abrasions and wear commensurate with age. Nice mellow patina. Good overall. 9-90383 (1,500-2,500)
