WINCHESTER SECOND MODEL 1866 SRC. SN 26423. Cal. 44RF, 20″ rnd bbl, full mag, front bbl band with integral sight blade, 2-leaf flip-up carbine rear sight. Top of bbl is marked “WINCHETER’S-REPEATING-ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT. / KING’S-IMPROVEMENTS-PATENTED-MARCH 29 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860.” Standard receiver with staple and ring on left side. Mounted with streaky straight grain walnut, uncheckered straight grip, crescent brass buttplate with trap door housing 3-pc steel with brass tip wiping rod, 8-1/2″ forearm with single band. PROVENANCE: David Crocker Estate Collection CONDITION: Very Good+. Bbl retains a mostly brown patina with some very fine surface oxidation with orig blue in protected areas. Magazine tube retains more blue mixed with brown patina and some fine surface oxidation. Front band retains orig blue blending with silver and brown patina. Rear band has flaked and worn to a brown and silver patina mix. Receiver is a mellow butterscotch patina with fairly sharp edges, some minor nicks & small dings, loading gate retains much of its fine nitre blue with some thinning in trough. Hammer has faded and turned a silver blending with brown patina. Lever has turned a dark brown patina. Stock is sound with numerous minor nicks, dings & shallow dents, some minor chipping at top tang & receiver and small chip at rear of top tang. Finish is a thin coat of added varnish blending with some hand-worn patina. Forend is sound with small crack behind band, has had a file and sandpaper treatment removing finish and leaving a rough dark oil appearance. Mechanics are crisp with a very nice bright shiny bore. 4-36881 BDT231 (6,000-10,000)
