ANTONIO NICOLO GASPARO JACOBSEN (American, 1850-1921) PORTRAIT OF THE SINGLE STACK SHIP “ARANSAS”. Oil on canvas portrait of the two-mast single-stack black hulled ship sailing right to left with twenty-four figures on its white deck. It flies the American flag off the stern, ship’s pennant off front mast, and the Joy Steamship Company flag off back mast. The name emblazoned on the bow and above the wheelhouse. Well rendered white tipped, blue/green water under blue, white, and pink cloud sky. Signed lower right “Antonio Jacobsen 1905”. Also “31 Palisade Av. WestHoboken, NJ”. Housed in a gilt molded wood frame. REFERENCE: This ship is listed as No. 19 in the Antonio Jacobsen Checklist. The ship was built by Harlan & Holl’worth in Wilmington, DE for the Joy Steamship Co. having New York as their home port. SIZE: 22″ x 36″. CONDITION: Craquelure, very good.
