EXCEPTIONAL NEW ENGLAND FEDERAL GRAIN PAINTED AND DECORATED TALL CASE CLOCK. Circa 1800. The bonnet with arched concave molded cornice beneath three spire finials alternating with pierced fretwork above the astral arched door flanked by free standing columns. The painted wood tombstone dial with polychrome and gilt floral spandrels centering an Arabic numeral chapter ring beneath the figure of a female angel in flight holding a horn fitted with a fanciful American flag. With 30 hour wooden works, the waist with rectangular thumbmolded door continuing to a concave molded box base on cutout feet with shaped apron. Boldly decorated overall with ochre and mustard sponge decoration, the doors sponge decorated in foliate green on a cream ground. The finials in chrome yellow. SIZE: 90″ h x 13-5/8″ throat w x 10″ d. CONDITION: Very fine retaining original decorated surfaces, the painted dial remains bright with craquelure. Hands appear original.
