UNUSUAL CAMPHOR CAMPAIGN CHEST WITH DESK. First half 19th century, England. The rectangular case in two parts, the upper section with central hinged drawer opening to reveal leather writing surface opening further to an additional sloping desk surface with well and long drawer fitted with compartments and pen tray. Flanked by a bank of two short drawers over two aligned drawers, joined to the lower case fitted with two long drawers all with ebony stringing. The chest raised on turned feet, the sides of each case fitted with brass carrying handles. Beneath chest in quill pen script is written: “R. Macalluter Esq. Brookline.” SIZE: 42″ h x 44″ w x 19″ d. PROVENANCE: Collection and shop contents of Linda and the late Vito Peri (owners of the Blue Dolphin Antique Shop, Northport, Maine). CONDITION: Professionally restored and repolished, fittings and hardware all original. Very good. 9-90037 (1,500-2,500)
