FOLK ART CARVED PINE SPERM WHALE PLAQUE. Late 19th Century. Nice weathered carving of a sperm whale. Whimsically rendered with an upright tail, open mouth and large eye. SIZE: 56″ l x 13-3/4″ h. PROVENANCE: Discovered on the property in Princeton, New Jersey from the “Nantucket Sleigh Ride” weathervane originated. It is surmised by the family that the original owner of the property carved both examples. CONDITION: Carving with very good patina and color. Old shrinkage shrinkage splits in tail strengthened. A chip out of the end of the whale’s tail. Good overall. 9-20444 (800-1,000)
