EARLY TWO-DIGIT HENRY LEVER ACTION REPEATING RIFLE. SN 28/1086. Cal. 44RF, 24-1/4″ oct bbl with integral mag tube, modified German silver front sight blade, standing semi-buck horn V-notch rear sight. Top of bbl is marked “HENRY’S PATENT. OCT. 16. 1860 / MANUFACT’D BY THE NEW HAVEN ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CT.” Adjacent receiver “1086”. Early Henry receiver with dovetailed cut in top flat. Bottom tang not equipped with lever latch. Left inside of bottom tang stamped “28”. Mounted with straight grain walnut, uncheckered straight grip and rnd heel brass buttplate with trap door stamped inside top tang “28”. One buttplate screw is numbered “28”. No other numbers were observed on stock screws. The appearance of this gun is that its been assembled in this manner for quite some time. For whatever reason, serial number “28” receiver was re-barreled and had stock and lever replaced at some time during period of use. CONDITION: Good to Very Good. Bbl and mag tube retain a dark brown patina with some areas of silver showing through, normal nicks & dings, bbl collar retaining screw is battered and loading gate lock is missing. Receiver retains a golden mustard patina, slightly rounded edges, some nicks, dings & scratches and some small spots of dark patina. Top of both side plates show some minor battering and screw heads show some minor battering. Replacement stock is sound, fits reasonably well around tangs with tiny chips on each side of upper tang, nicks, dings & minor dents, small chip at toe of buttplate and retains a hand-worn open-grain oil finish. Lever fully cocks hammer but lifter does not rise completely to the top. Bore is dark with distinct rifling and some moderate pitting. 4-40721 BDT235 (12,500-17,500)
