GROUP OF THULIN ARCHIVAL PHOTOGRAPHS AND DRAWINGS. The lot includes: twelve photographs, three original drawings, a copy of a newspaper illustration, a business card with envelope and newspaper obituary. Photographs include five frames; a carved baptismal; two ornate religious frames; a carved lift top chest; a photograph of Thulin at Niagara Falls; an outstanding photograph of a carvers workshop early in Thulin’s career and probably Montreal, Canada; a photograph of Thulin’s workshop with inventory which shows various frames, a carved baptismal, blanket chest, two church chairs and frame in progress. A copy of an engraved illustration from the Boston Sunday Herald, November 13th, 1924 “Walfred Thulin, Great Swedish Wood Carver”. Obituary August 14th, 1949. An ink drawing of a carving with a matching overlay stencil. Also a pencil drawing of a corner of a frame design with annotations and with note to Mrs. Robert Saltonstall on his letterhead and also signed. PROVENANCE: Thulin Estate, Hamden, Maine.
