FINE MODEL 1860 HENRY LEVER ACTION RIFLE. SN 11624. Cal. 44 RF Henry. Standard civilian rifle with 24-1/4″ oct bbl with integral magazine tube, German silver front sight and 900 yard Henry ladder rear sight. Top flat of bbl has usual Henry markings & patent dates forward of rear sight and SN over chamber area. Receiver has an orig early tang sight with 3-1/2″ thick staff with beveled edges and a friction slide. Mounted with uncheckered straight grain American walnut buttstock with straight grip & crescent brass buttplate with late pointed heel and trap. Left side of buttstock has a factory sling swivel with the “Henry bump” below and ther is a corresponding sling loop on left side of bbl. SN is on top flat of bbl, left side of lower tang under the wood and inside toe of buttplate. Remnants of a SN can be seen in top tang channel of buttstock, however the screw mounting holes for the tang sight have extended below the tang and have obliterated most of the numbers in the buttstock. However, given the wood to metal fit and the orig buttplate, there is no reason to suspect that this is not the orig buttstock. The assembly number “823” was noted to be on top of the round portion of the bbl, under the rotating sleeve which number is also on rear face of rotating sleeve. The Henry rifle was used to great effect during the Civil War and later on the frontier, usually seeing hard service under adverse conditions with little or no maintenance. They remained in service well into the 1870s before being surplanted by centerfire cartridge firearms. Accompanied by a small leather pouch that contains 15-rnds of no-head stamp 44 RF Henry ammunition. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl & magazine tube retain a smooth dark brown attic patina with traces of blue around the rear sight. Receiver retains strong edges showing only light wear with some bruises in the metal on the front side. Top edge of sideplates & receiver are clean with no hammer marks. Wood is sound with usual light handling & use nicks & scratches and retains a fine hand worn patina. Mechanics are fine, strong dark bore that may clean better. Ammunition is oxidized with small amounts of verdigris. 4-39977 JR319 (20,000-25,000)
