FINE SCRIMSHAW TOOTH. Early 20th century, New England. Scrimmed depicting a woman with bonnet and fan within polychrome floral spandrels. Further bordered with a band of stars, titled “BEAUTY”. The reverse depicting a splayed eagle, a banner in its mouth, inscribed “DUTY-HONOR-LOYALTY”. A clutch of arrows and sprig of olive branch in each talon, again within floral spandrels and star border. The point of the tooth surmounted by a patriotic shield within a border of stars and olive branches. SIZE: 7-1/2″ l. PROVENANCE: From a private Utah collection. CONDITION: Very good with nicely polished surfaces, mellow patina, and normal and expected shrinkage cracks to case of tooth. Otherwise very good. 9-90382 (1,000-1,500)
