UNSIGNED (American, 19th/20th Century) SAILING OFF THE CLIFF HOUSE, YORK, MAINE. Interesting oil on canvas laid on aluminum scene shows a two-mast black-hulled schooner sailing right to left past the original large multi-story inn with wrap around porch and flying the American flag. It sits atop a grass covered bluff with steep ocean side. The view is from the ocean and looking along the shoreline dotted with houses. The Cliff House, a landmark in coastal southern Maine was opened in 1872 and has had an illustrious past and is still in operation today. Housed in a modern carved wood frame with decorative brass buttons at the corners. SIZE: 22″ x 36″. CONDITION: Craquelure with some inpainting, otherwise good. 9-22994 (1,000-2,000)
