SCARCE VOLCANIC NO. 2 NAVY SIZED LEVER ACTION PISTOL. SN 1987. Cal. 41. Usual configuration with scarce 6″ bbl with integral magazine tube, German silver pin front sight and a very light bbl roll-marking on top flat that has only the patent date and “NEW HAVEN CONN.”. Brass frame is lightly engraved in foliate arabesque patterns on sides and side plates with foliate patterns over top flats of chamber area and top strap. It is engraved with feather patterns around hammer slot and foliate patterns down the back strap and is mounted with 2-pc smooth walnut grips numbered to this pistol. SN was observed on right side of butt strap under the grip, on lever, both links & the bolt. Left side plate is numbered to match with right side plate numbered “1951”. Even though the right side plate is not matching numbered it is readily apparent that it has been with this pistol its working life. Engraving is identical to the left side and matches the engraving patterns on the frame. According to Flayderman’s Guide to Antique American Firearms only about 300 were produced after the company became New Haven Arms Company. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl & magazine tube retain 88-90% dark, strong orig factory blue with a few scattered spots of light surface rust. Frame retains traces of silver plating being mostly a very rich brass patina. Lever retains 30-40% orig blue with balance a medium patina. Hammer retains traces of case colors on sides with the edges a light patina. Grips have three repairs that are unnoticeable externally. Mechanics are crisp, strong bore with scattered pitting. There are other mechanical repairs that are not detectable. 4-40757 JR307 (12,500-17,500)
