STANLEY WINGATE WOODWARD (American, 1890-1970) “ANDREWS POINT”. Oil on board coastal North Shore, Massachusetts scene shows large green waves crashing onto coastal rocks spraying white foam skyward. Signed lower left. Also titled and signed on reverse of board and dated “Sept. 4 1939″. Andrews Point is located on the northern coastline of Rockport, MA. Housed in a fine period carved and gilt wood frame. SIZE: 8″ x 10”. PROVENANCE: From an East Sangerville, Maine private collection, by descent from the estate of Sidney Wetmore Davidson ( 1894-1979 ), Brooklyn Heights, New York, to the present owner, a grand-daughter. Probably acquired by the present owner’s grandparents from the artist in Rockport , Massachusetts, where siblings of both Mr. and Mrs. Davidson lived and they often visited.
