THOMAS HILL (American, 1829-1908) “PRESIDIO, EARLY CALIFORNIA”. Oil on board coastal view shows a section of the San Francisco area having a C-shaped bay area with sandy beach. Several large ships are moored with one at dock. Many red roof buildings are seen in rows and one area circling a parade area flying flag. The foreground hillside having a tent encampment with men and some houses. The background having an extended coastline with bay areas and mountains. A label from Maxwell Galleries, San Francisco is attached to the back with title and artist. Painting is signed lower right “T. Hill”. Housed in a gilt molded wood frame. A wonderful historic scene of the California coast. SIZE: 15″ x 22″. PROVENANCE: From the Estate of Geraldine Gaba, Scottsdale, AZ. CONDITION: Very good. 9-94801 (30,000-50,000)
