RARE BRONZE PLAQUE OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE. Cast in readable print as an award by the United States Centennial Commission, at the International Exhibition in Philadelphia in 1876. This is a very rare piece of historic Americana of which few, if not this only one, exists as a memento of the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of our country’s independence. The relief sculpture in the center of the plaque depicts all of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Above this are the two official seals of the Centennial Commission. Dated in Roman numerals: MLCCCLXXVI (1876) in the casting. SIZE: 15″ h x 10-1.4″ w. CONDITION: Very good to near excellent, retaining its original patina. 1-26911 (1,500-2,500)
