EXPERIMENTAL OR PROTOTYPE WINCHESTER MODEL 01 LEVER ACTION SHOTGUN. Only specimen in existence we know of. Cal. 10 ga. SN 77878. Standard grade shotgun with 32” plain rnd bbl, sgl bead, half magazine, mounted with uncheckered, slab sawed, American walnut with forearm side panels between the bbl & magazine tube and rnd knob pistol grip stock, 13-1/4” over a Winchester embossed hard rubber buttplate. Left side of receiver has the intertwined “WRACO” initials. Receiver has unique feature of a raised area, approx. 3/8” high with tapered sides and a concave groove in top. This was apparently an attempt at a sight or may have been a receiver intended for use with the experimental 70-150 cartridge. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbl retains 92-93% strong orig blue with some scrapes & scratches and thin spots over forearm area. Magazine tube retains about 85% strong orig blue with wear, scrapes & scratches over back 1/3. Receiver retains 85-90% strong orig blue with some fine pitting on left side and fine pinpoints of rust on right side. Wood is sound with left side panel showing moderate to heavy wear and some oil staining on right side. Buttstock has a series of five small dents on left side, otherwise with light handling & use marks and wood overall retains a smooth, hand worn patina. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore with some minor orange peel effect, just in front of chamber. 4-59218 JR651 (6,000-10,000)
