JESSIE WILCOX SMITH (American, 1863-1935) ORIGINAL POSTER ART “SAVE YOUR PENNIES AND FEED THE STARVING CHILDREN OF BELGIUM”. Oil/gouache on heavy paper scene shows a boy and a girl in blue outfits slicing large loafs of bread and handing them out to a long procession of needy children which disappear into the clouds which support the title. Signed lower left “Jessie Wilcox Smith”. Housed in a modern gilt molded wood frame with white matte. A wonderful example of Smith’s work including her favorite subject, children. It was at the time of WWI artist’s were asked to contribute and this example exemplifies their effort. SIZE: Sight: 29″ x 21-1/2″. CONDITION: There is an open split 12″ long from left to center halfway horizontal which is restorable, otherwise very good. 9-95438 (20,000-30,000)
