ABIGAIL OSGOOD WILLIAMS (American, 1823-1913) BAY OF NAPLES FROM CAPRI. Outstanding large oil on canvas Italian panoramic view from Ana Capri, Villa Damecota. Mount Vesuvius is seen spewing smoke under a wonderful sunset with hues from pink to light blue. Several boats are seen on the bay with many buildings along its shores. Signed lower left and inscribed “Roma 1866”. We believe this to be the same painting that was exhibited at the Boston Athenaeum and is mentioned in their records in 1868. Housed in a wonderful gesso decorated period wide frame. SIZE: 23-1/2” x 38-1/2”. CONDITION: Relined, minor inpainting. Very good. 9-71346 (14,000-18,000)
