*FINE GRIFFIN & HOWE CUSTOM WINCHESTER MODEL 70 BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 243. SN 354667. Fine hunting rifle with 22” tapered rnd bbl with ramp front sight, missing hood, and marked on top “GRIFFIN & HOWE INC. NEW YORK” with the G&H number “2358”. Bolt, rails, follower & extractor are all nicely jeweled & bolt knob is knurled. Mounted in a nicely figured, streaky, French or Circassian walnut, 1-pc stock with Griffin & Howe’s trademark black forend cap & steel capped, pistol grip butt, with cheekpiece 13-3/4” over a checkered Niedner buttplate. Bottom of stock has a gold initial oval engraved “J.H.M.” Stock also has sling swivel studs. Receiver is mounted with Redfield Jr. bases & rings containing a Leupold Vari-X II 3X9X scope. CONDITION: Very fine. Metal retains 96-97% strong custom Griffin & Howe blue. Wood is sound with small scrapes on left side by receiver & usual handling & use marks elsewhere and retains most of its fine Griffin & Howe finish. Apparently, at one time, the stock sat in water and has left a dark 1/2” stain at heel which also rusted buttplate. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore with a spot of rust that should clean. 4-59206 JR691 (2,000-3,000)
